Terms of Service

Welcome to UniBooks (the "Platform"). Please read these Terms of Service (the "Terms") carefully. By registering, signing in or otherwise using the Platform you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
1. The Service
1.1 The Platform is a C2C (person-to-person) second-hand textbook matching service offering book search, ISBN-based catalog aggregation, listings, restock alerts, in-app chat, order tracking and related tools.
1.2 The Platform is not the seller, buyer or agent of any book, and is not an online shop operator. Sale contracts exist solely between buyer and seller. We do not set transaction terms, and we do not handle, collect or hold any payment. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness or legality of listings or the quality of books.
1.3 Transactions are currently conducted mainly by on-campus meetup: the parties agree a time and place, inspect the book in person, and pay each other directly.
1.4 We may add, change, suspend or discontinue all or part of the service at any time. Material changes will be announced on the Platform or sent to your registered email.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
2.1 The Platform is for students and alumni of Taiwanese colleges and universities. You must be at least 18, or have your legal guardian's consent.
2.2 After registering you must verify your student status with your school-issued .edu.tw email before you can list books or place orders. If you cannot use a school email you may request manual review through the Platform's process.
2.3 To confirm you are still enrolled, you must re-verify within 30 days after each semester begins. Some features are restricted until you do, and are restored once you re-verify.
2.4 After graduation your account continues as "Alumni"; some campus-only features may no longer be available.
2.5 One account per person. You may not use someone else's email, identity or school eligibility, or create multiple accounts to evade restrictions.
2.6 You must provide accurate, current information and keep your credentials secure. Everything done through your account is treated as done by you; tell us immediately if you suspect misuse.
2.7 You may delete your account at any time in Account Settings. Data handling after deletion follows the Privacy Policy.
3. Your Responsibilities
3.1 When listing a book, accurately state the title, ISBN, edition, price and condition grade, and attach real photos of that copy. Do not hide significant defects or use other people's photos.
3.2 You must have the right to sell the book, and it must be a lawfully obtained genuine copy.
3.3 Communicate respectfully. For meetups, choose public places such as campus libraries or lounges and take care of your personal safety and belongings.
3.4 Update the order status to reflect what actually happened, and honor what you committed to.
3.5 Do not use the Platform for anything unlawful under the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan) or contrary to public order and morals.
4. Transaction Rules
4.1 On-campus meetup
- Buyer and seller agree the time and place through in-app chat.
- The buyer inspects the book on the spot and pays only once it matches the listing. Payment method is agreed between the parties; the Platform is not involved.
- The Platform charges no listing fee, commission or other fee. If fees are introduced later they will be announced clearly before taking effect and will not affect existing transactions.
4.2 Order status and cancellation
- The buyer may cancel any time before the seller accepts the order.
- The seller may cancel before the meetup.
- An order is closed once both parties confirm completion.
- Frequent or unjustified cancellations, or failing to show up, may lead to restrictions on your account.
4.3 Free books
A listing priced at NT$0 is a giveaway. These Terms still apply; the giver must still describe the condition honestly, and the recipient decides whether to accept after inspecting the book.
4.4 Restock alerts
You can add books that have no listings to restock alerts. When a matching listing appears we notify you in-app or by email according to your settings. This is not a guarantee of supply or price.
5. Condition Grades
Sellers must choose one of four grades and attach photos of the actual book:

| No Notes | Shows signs of reading but no writing, highlighting or dog-ears inside |
| Marked | Contains pen marks, highlighting or folds, but content is complete and readable |
| Damaged | Missing pages, stains, loose binding or other clear damage; must be clearly shown in photos and description |
A buyer may decline to complete a deal if the grade is inaccurate; misgrading confirmed through a report is handled under Section 10.
6. Disputes and Reports
6.1 Buyers and sellers should first try to resolve disputes between themselves. Where a deal is completed after in-person inspection, later disputes are for the parties to settle.
6.2 You can use the report feature to flag false listings, fraud, harassment or other violations, ideally with screenshots or a description. We review reports under our internal process and may remove listings, warn, restrict features or suspend accounts. The Platform is not an arbitrator: we do not decide civil liability between users or collect money on anyone's behalf.
6.3 For crimes or threats to personal safety, contact the police immediately. Where required by law we will cooperate by providing necessary information.
7. Prohibited Conduct
You must not:
- list pirated books, photocopies, counterfeits or anything infringing intellectual property;
- list non-book items or prohibited goods;
- impersonate others, use others' school emails, or register with false information;
- create multiple accounts, mass-register, fake orders, manipulate prices or abuse system features;
- send spam, scam messages, advertising or unsolicited promotions;
- harass, threaten, discriminate against or defame anyone, or post false, unlawful, sexual or violent content;
- steer users to pay or trade off-platform to evade the rules or commit fraud;
- scrape Platform data with bots or crawlers, or interfere with, damage or probe the Platform's systems and security;
- reverse-engineer, copy or resell the service or software;
- otherwise violate the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan) or these Terms.
8. User Content
8.1 Text, photos, chat and other content you submit ("User Content") remains yours or that of the original rights holder.
8.2 You grant the Platform a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, adapt (for example thumbnails and compression) and publicly display your User Content as needed to operate, display, promote and improve the service. This licence ends when you delete the content or account, except for existing backups, copies other users have already saved, or records required by law.
8.3 You warrant that you have the necessary rights in your User Content and that it does not infringe third-party rights or violate the law.
8.4 We have no duty to pre-screen User Content, but may remove or restrict content that we find or are told violates these Terms or the law.
9. Intellectual Property
The Platform's name, logo, interface design, code, database structure and other non-User Content belong to the UniBooks development team or the respective rights holders. You may not copy, distribute, adapt or use them commercially without written permission.
10. Enforcement
If you violate these Terms, we may, depending on severity and without prior notice, take one or more of these actions:
- issue a warning;
- remove specific listings or content;
- restrict some features;
- cancel or void orders;
- suspend or permanently terminate your account;
- reserve our legal rights and, as the law allows, report to or provide information to the authorities.

11. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
11.1 The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law we do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free or fully secure operation.
11.2 The Platform is only an information-matching service. Transactions between users, meetups, book quality, prices, performance and personal or property safety are the responsibility of buyer and seller. We are not liable for damage caused by users' conduct.
11.3 We are not liable for interruption, delay or data loss caused by maintenance, failures of third-party services (such as cloud, email or Google services), network problems, force majeure or other causes beyond our reasonable control.
11.4 To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from use of, or inability to use, the service. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
11.5 Person-to-person transactions between users are not sales by a business operator, so the seven-day review period under Article 19 of Taiwan's Consumer Protection Act does not apply to them.
12. Indemnity
If your breach of these Terms or of the law causes loss to the Platform or a third party, you are liable for that loss, including reasonable legal fees.
13. Changes to the Terms
We may amend these Terms for legal or service reasons. Amended Terms are posted on this page with an updated date; for material changes we will announce on the Platform or email you. Continuing to use the Platform after changes take effect means you accept them; if you do not, stop using it and you may delete your account.
14. General
14.1 If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.
14.2 The Traditional Chinese version prevails; other languages are for reference only and, if they differ, the Traditional Chinese version controls.
14.3 You may not assign your rights or obligations under these Terms without our consent.
15. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
15.1 These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
15.2 The Taipei District Court is the court of first instance with jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms or use of the Platform, unless the law provides for exclusive jurisdiction elsewhere.
